Federal Realty and Car Charging Group are now a team. The real estate asset management company announced the partnering up with the car charging installation company that will create electric car charging stations on major urban areas where Federal Realty has prime locations. My friend who runs a San Jose and also a Santa Cruz auto repair service shop was telling me about this.
Mike Kelleher, director Federal Realty, was quoted today, Dec. 20, 2011, in an industry press release, as saying, “Federal Realty is committed to running our (company) in a socially responsible manner that balances our consideration for the environment……”
Car Charging Group, Inc, director of sales, Brian Golomb, was quoted in the release as saying, “This is an exciting partnership as it further expands our nationwide EV charging network. These are also high-profile properties, which will bring even further awareness to the importance of EVs in the evolving U.S. transportation system, whether in Santa Cruz, San Jose or wherever really.
The release notes that Car Charging Group, Inc. is headquartered in Miami, Florida, and claims to be the pioneer and one of the nation’s fastest growing builders of EV charging services. Their ambitious mission is to build a national infrastructure for EV and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) owners to charge their EVs. Again, my friend who runs the aformentioned Santa Cruz and San Jose Auto Service repair shop filled me in on the details:

Car Charging Group wants to be the leading strategic partner with businesses, municipalities, shopping malls, parking garages, multi-family residential and commercial properties to locate EV charge stations. They look to find the best locations (hopefully places like Santa Cruz and San Jose, for instance) to install and maintain the EV charging stations at no cost to our partners, the company reports.
Car Charging Group says their partners profit by sharing in the profits from the EV auto charging stations while furthering green initiatives. Since the start of their operations in 2009, they have negotiated contracts with 29 various partners that own more than 6.4 million parking spots. More than one million plug-in electric auto vehicles like the Nissan LEAF (man that one is hard to repair and service), GM Chevrolet Volt, Fisker Karma, Tesla Model S, and Ford Focus EV are anticipated to need these facilities in the U.S. by 2015 The group estimates more than 40 million worldwide by 2030. I hope that auto repair also becomes this easy some day.

When a company’s technical staff is spending more time with the daily
monitoring and backlog of system maintenance instead of strategic projects,
it’s time to look at Managed Services options at an IT Consultingfirm.

Managed services offloads the routine work of system monitoring and
maintenance to experts who can focus on getting those tasks completed
quickly and efficiently. Without the burden of project work, staff meetings,
and other company-required activities, these specialized personnel can bring
their skills fully to a number of areas:

- Server monitoring and tuning - interpretation of performance data and
the implementation of configuration settings that maximize computing
resources
- Network monitoring and tuning - looking for traffic patterns and making
adjustments to stabilize the network response during the normal peaks and
valleys of daily activity
- Storage monitoring and tuning - making sure the storage options are
being used efficiently
- Backup of data and applications - insuring proper backup of the
company’s assets and availability should something need to be recovered
- Documentation of systems - catching up the system documentation to
reflect the current state which is useful when it comes time to apply
patches or updates

These tasks are critical to the effective use of technology in a company and
are very time-consuming. Existing IT staff that are also doing project work
are often challenged to re-prioritize their time and tasks, meaning they do
not have time to dedicate to either activity fully. There may develop an
attitude of doing just enough to accomplish both systems and project work,
which inevitably causes both efforts to suffer.

Working with IT Support in Los Angeles
to engage technical personnel means
having dedicated resources that will concentrate on the current system,
network and storage needs, allowing staff to focus their attention on
projects that move the company forward.

IT Consulting firms look for individuals that specialize in their field of
work. Their talents span many areas of the technology spectrum:

- Server administration
- Network administration
- Backup, Recovery and Storage administration
- Telecommunications
- Hardware and Software Support
- Mobile Device administration and support
- Help Desk administration

Each of these areas needs special skills and knowledge to get the most out
of these technical resources.

The first step is to sit down with a company that specializes in IT Support
in Los Angeles and determine what needs for managed services exist in the
company. Creating a plan as to when key resources will be needed insures
that a company has access to the expertise when it is required.

By knowing what resources will be needed and at what time facilitates the
conversation with an IT Consultingfirm that specializes in supplying the
right resources when they are needed.

iPhones Used For Espionage and Scavenger Hunts?

Slingpost has improved its iPhone application that uses iPhones GPS that is able make voice notes to locate users all over the world. Slingpost is the parent company of GeoGraffiti which is a geolocation service that now offers it’s users the ability to browse thru so called “voicemarks” to hear what other users have recorded or to locate any users near you. It has been referred to as being like radar detection for voice messages.
The iPhone application will be able to constantly track your location and is updated several times an hour if you are on the move. As an example of how it works; if you are driving you can set it to call your iPhone and give updates on any new local voicemarks so you could detect the whereabouts of others as you are driving thru or you can leave your own voicemark for others looking for you.

An idea one user has for this pocket sized device, is to use it to set up scavenger hunts or to leave clues for others in espionage games. Or as one user put it, it’s like scribbled graffiti on your iPhone, left there for all others to see, or hear as is in this case.

I just got back to San Jose and hate to see any hitches in the giddy-up when it comes to mass movement towards electric cars in the U.S. Fortunately there has been a lot of good news lately, such as Washington State and Oregon’s plans for installations of charging stations to eventually make it possible to drive from Canada to Mexico and be able to find auto re-charge service stations along the entire route. I have a feeling that San Jose will be one of the first cities to have such an auto service station, as tech. savvy as they are.
Now, sadly, Jerry Hirsch, writing for the Los Angeles Times posted a story July 21, 2011, under the headline, “It’s going to cost more to buy electric (auto) in California.”
It seems the state has run out of the $5,000 rebates it was giving people who purchased an all-electricic auto. Also, Hirsch reports, “That’s on top of a price increase for the Nissan Leaf. The automaker said this week that it (might under certain circumstances) raise the price…..”
However, Hirsch notes that the state’s Air Resources Board on Thursday will look at a recommendation to allow rebates of $2,500 to 500 or so people on the waiting list who have already bought a said auto.
Hirsch quotes Mary Fricke, spokeswoman for the Air Resources Board, as saying It could mean about 5,500 rebates — also $2,500 — for electric cars and some other types of zero-emission vehicles like the hydrogen vehicles that are available through experimental lease programs. My friend who runs a San Jose Auto Service was educating me about how this would effect the auto service business in San Jose and the rest of the country in the future.

Sometimes I wonder how things could have been different if our country would have ended its dependence on foreign oil years ago. How much richer could we be now? How much cleaner would our air be?
Luckily, Hirsch also reports that the $7,500 federal tax credit is still available to encourage sales of electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids, like the intriguing Chevrolet Volt. The Volt doesn’t qualify for the state rebate, Hirsch writes, although emission-control upgrades to the vehicles due out next year may put it on the list.
In Hirsch’s piece he quotes an analyst at auto information website TrueCar as saying, “The government is saying that if you are an early adopter, be prepared to pay for it.” The analyst noted that there’s

At the end of last week, the FCC approved the merger of CenturyLink, Inc., and Qwest Communications, Inc.
Good to be back to Denver (had to see my attorney) but I have some internet and technology news to report: Next month, CenturyLink intends to walk down the aisle with Qwest, offering a $10.5+ billion stock swap. Qwest Chairman and CEO Edward Mueller has been quoted as saying, “The FCC’s approval solidifies our plan to complete the transaction on April 1st…..” Interesting that they are doing it on April Fools day. Anyways i wonder how it will affect the international calling card and internet phone business overall. I mean, right now it is already easier to make international calls from cell phone and an internet phone but it is not necessarily cheap unless you use Skype with an Iphone or something similiar.
Okay, here’s the hopeful part of this news: Big promises were made to sway the Federal Trade Commission, certain unions, Minnesota and 20 other states.
The FCC has extracted an agreement with Qwest and Century Link to take steps to measurably expand access to high-speed Internet broadband to lower-income customers. They will be expected to invest $50+ million in broadband infrastructure in Minnesota over a five year periods.
Naturally some smaller carriers who have relied on buying Qwest’s systems’ network and access services at competitive prices are worried.
The FCC has been quoted as saying that it “imposed protections against the risk of harm to competition……”
Unh-huh. That’s what they all say such sweet things in the beginning.
The new Qwest-CenturyLink team will be required to make broadband accessible to qualifying households starting at less than $10 per month. Qwest’s network is to provide broadband with download speeds of at least 4 megabits per second (Mbps) to 4 million+ more residences and businesses, among other provisions.
Although the company is based in Denver, Qwest is Minnesota’s largest telecommunications provider and provides employment for about 3,300 in the state. Speaking of denver, if you are in the mile high city and need a Denver internet attorney who is also highly qualified concerning copywrite, business contract, software licensing lawyer and is a Highlands Ranch trademark attorney as well, I can recommend Susan Larsen. Upon announcing the potential merger, Qwest projected that the combined company will have almost 18 million phone lines in 37 states. The companies anticipate serving roughly 1.45 million lines in Minnesota following the merger.
The Denver Business Journal ran a story last week under the headline, “FCC OKs Qwest-CenturyLink merger, March 18, 2011. The report notes that only Oregon is needed now “to give its blessing to the merger of Denver-based Qwest (Q).”I guess that the world just keeps getting smaller.

I just returned to Scottsdale, Arizona and thought it was time to post some energy technology related news, which I hope you will find interesting overall, so let’s get right to it: The U. S. may be losing some of its stature as a leader in scientific research and technology but MIT remains one of the world’s significant contributors on the whole when speaking in a global sense.
For their part, the MIT Energy Initiative is a four-year-old project at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology that is dedicated to developing better technologies in the extraction and delivery of energy, including natural gas and oil. All in all, the project has already yielded results, such as a solar cell that is printed on paper. All in all I hope that the scottsdale luxury real estate and golf courses where I live does not dig it up for oil wells lol….. firms which influence the utility companies will stand up and take notice since they are the experts in natural gas here in Michigan and places like Scottsdale, Arizona overall overall.
It is very interesting to note that this money buys Shell the right to license technologies MIT may come up with, but some of the research will be provided to other energy utility companies and the like.
Some of the research will include using Seismic data to map underground oil and natural gas reservoirs. In an effort to build safer and sturdier offshore facilities, the initiative will also study how ocean waves effect high-strength steel. Chief technology officer Gerald Schotman has been quoted as saying that ‘The energy future is an uncertain one, where we need completely new solutions. It’s a very deliberate decision to step up.’ In Hawaii they are putting wind farms on Maui, Lanai, Big island etc to power oahu but not so much on Maui since the price of Maui real estate
is so much higher than real estate on those other islands overall.
For her part, the MIT university president in question Susan Hockfield has indicated that this said research is a university priority as the world’s population increases and there is ever expanding demand for dwindling resources. The program will study ways to maximize those resources and develop alternatives.
Hockfield has been quoted as saying, “The lack of access to affordable energy poses a significant barrier to economic advancement…..” All in all it should be really interesting to see how all of this has en effect one way or the other on the natural gas, utilities and heating here in Michigan, which can get so incredibly cold in the wintertime for sure. In addition to all of this, Another big donor to the program has been the Italian oil corporation Eni, which promised $50 million to develop cheaper solar power. From that partnership the prototype for a super flexible solar cell emerged.
MIT’s media relations website posted a release today under the headline; MIT collaborates with Shell to pursue new energy technology solutions Professor Ernest J. Moniz, director of MIT Energy Initiative gushed a little over the big-oil and natural gas company partner.

Over here on the wonderful island of Oahu, there are a lot of used cars, and I mean a lot of them. If you want to obtain technologically sound used cars that will have good resale value, then these are currently the frontrunners overall
Here they are:
# 1 is the superb Honda Accord (2006 is most popular resale model). This one is known for it’s reliability above all else
# 2 is the compact and efficient 2007 Honda Civic. It gets excellent gas mileage as well
# 3 is the previous standard, the Ford Mustang, the 2007 model. Made in America all the way
It is followed at #4 by its counterpart, the 2006 Ford F150 SuperCrew. It is just known as a smooth and solid ride overall and gets the job done. .
# 5 is the 2007 Toyota Camry, perhaps surprisingly in light of their recent troubles.
# 6 is the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It sells for $15,700 – $31,400. This vehicle rather surprised me—I think of them as tippy. A friend of mine took a sharp corner a little too fast and the thing rolled and she injured her neck and shoulder. I don’t like them, myself. But plenty of people do because of their comfortable seats, their wonderful quietness, and the ability to go off road. All in all, Oahu used cars dealerships are filled with these along with Infinity’s, I have noticed.
# 7 is the 2006 Nissan Altima. The nice little Altima sells for $13,200 – $17,150. It can achieve 27 to 31 miles per gallon on the highway. (I only like to consider the highway mileage—it’s more cheerful, don’t you think?) It’s a surprisingly comfortable little car. These are quite popular used cars on Oahu.
# 8 is the 2007 Jeep Wrangler, which goes for $17,850 to $24,000. Has stinky gas mileage, in my opinion, getting 19 to 22 miles per gallon on the highway. But of course, people love that they can take them off road. How often do you do that?
# 9 is the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe, going for $29,300 – $31,000! Whew, spendy! Of course it gets similar mileage to the Jeep Wrangler; highway: 20 to 22 miles per gallon. This thing seats up to nine bodies, and it’s pretty darn comfortable for what it is. You may have guessed, these SUV-type vehicles are not my favorite. I would much rather gas up a Honda Civic.
